Flight training at Seething Flying Club is available exclusively to club members who have been active contributing members for at least 3 months.
Step 1: Join the Club

Participate actively in club life for a minimum of 3 months before starting flight training.
Flight Training at Seething Airfield
Seething Flying Club offers comprehensive flight training programs for club members. Our experienced volunteer instructors provide personalized training to help you achieve your flying goals, whether you're looking to fly for pleasure or pursuing a career in aviation.
We offer training for the Private Pilot's License (PPL), as well as various ratings and endorsements. Our training is conducted on well-maintained aircraft, and our volunteer instructors are committed to ensuring you receive the highest quality training in a safe and enjoyable environment.
Training Requirements
Club Membership Required
You must be a member of Seething Flying Club to receive flight training. This ensures you're part of our community and understand our volunteer-driven ethos.
3-Month Active Participation
Before starting flight training, you must have been an active contributing member for at least 3 months. This includes participating in club activities, helping with maintenance, and supporting club operations.
Volunteer Instructors
Our instructors are unpaid volunteers who give their time to help fellow members learn to fly. This keeps training costs low while maintaining high standards.
Our Training Aircraft
We conduct our flight training on the following aircraft:
Cessna 172
The Cessna 172 is a four-seat, fixed tricycle gear, general aviation airplane, used primarily for flight training and personal use.
- 4-seat configuration
- 180 HP Lycoming engine
- Cruising speed: 122 knots
- Range: 640 nautical miles
- Ideal for flight training and touring
Training Courses
Private Pilot's License (PPL)
The PPL allows you to fly for pleasure, carry passengers (not for hire or reward), and is the first step towards a career in aviation.
- Minimum 45 hours flight time (typically 50-60 hours)
- 9 ground exams
- Radiotelephony practical test
- Skills test with an examiner
- Class 2 medical required
Night Rating
The Night Rating allows PPL holders to fly at night, extending your flying opportunities.
- Minimum 5 hours night flying
- Includes night navigation training
- No formal test required
Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) Rating
The IMC Rating (now known as the Instrument Rating (Restricted)) allows you to fly in cloud and poor visibility conditions.
- Minimum 15 hours instrument flight time
- Written examination
- Skills test with an examiner
